THE NETHERLANDS – The 2020 Eurovision Song Contest logo revealed in order to accompany the motto #OPENUP but immediately most of us remembered the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest logo in Tbilisi, Georgia.
The 2020 logo design, which forms the visual basis for the three shows and the event in Rotterdam, symbolizes the celebration of 65 years of the Eurovision Song Contest and the 41 countries that come together there.
The Eurovision Song Contest was created 10 years after the Second World War to bring Europe closer together with the help of music.
In recent decades, the competition has always opened itself up to new countries, new talent and new technology.
To reinforce that message, a data-driven vignette has been developed that celebrates the history of the song festival in a contemporary way.
The logo is an abstract representation of the colours from the flags of the 41 countries participating in 2020, in order of their first song festival participation. Adding this to the vignette in chronological order creates an abstract and colourful symbol. The logo builds on the design of three previous editions of the Eurovision Song Contest that was held in the Netherlands in 1970, 1976 and 1980.
