RUSSIA – The Russian branch of the fast food chain Burger King sent a letter to the Ukrainian President, Petro Poroshenko, requesting permission for Russian singer, Yuliya Samoylova, to enter Ukraine for the Eurovision Song Contest, reports Lenta.ru.
If the president of Ukraine accepts the offer, the company is ready to transfer up to one billion rubles ($14.5 million USD) to the budget of Ukraine. The company specifies that the project will be implemented within the framework of the Burger King charitable program in Russia.
This is not the first time the Russian Burger King company has offered large sums to famous people and organizations. In November 2016, the company promised Ksenia Sobchak 100 million rubles a year for naming her son Kingo, and even earlier offered 500 million rubles ($8.74 million USD) to St. Petersburg’s football club Zenit as a “one-time sponsorship” to change its name into “Zenit-Burger King.” Representatives of the club responded by trolling the company.
