ITALY – The epidemic crisis of CORONAVIRUS (COVID 19) has stormed Italy as no other country in Europe. The country massively suffers from virus deaths and one of their famous aspects, the Sanremo Festival, seems to be also affected, already for its 2021 edition.
While Italy confirmed the broadcast of the alternative EBU show, EUROPE: SHINE A LIGHT, the Italians started worrying what will happen with the 2021 edition of their famous music festival, which after all, inspired the creators of the Eurovision Song Contest back in the 50s.
Walter Vacchino, the patron of the Ariston Theatre, gave an interview to the local press explaining the ideas on the table for the 2021 edition of Sanremo Festival. Although the venue is much smaller than you even see on TV, there are two options for the organisers.
The first option is to choose another venue for the event, which will include all applied health rules. Though the patron doesn’t wanna even want to think about that nightmare scenario.
The second option is to move the contest two months ahead of its normal dates. This means that a mid-March or an April event will not be eligible to decide the representation of the country in the EUROVISION SONG CONTEST as it usually happens.
Sanremo Festival date period hasn’t changed in its history with an exception in the 70s.
