For the 5th year in a row Setรบbal hosted the Eurovision Live Concert. This year it was marked by the claims on the return of Portugal to the Eurovision Song Contest and the tribute to Antonio Calvรกrio.
The Eurovision Live Concert served as a medium to claim the return of Portugal to the Eurovision Song Contest. One of the artists who made her voice most heard was Vรขnia Fernandes (Portugal 2008) who, loud and clear, said that “Portugal must return to Eurovision. It’s part of our history and culture. We need to do everything possible to return!”
Asked by host Pedro Granger whether she would return to the contest, the singer stated that “it’s such a wonderful experience that every artist should have the opportunity and privilege to participate. Willing to participate again would be this kind of selfish of me”.
The event featured several artists, notably the first ever representant of Portugal, Antรณnio Calvรกrio, who was praised by the president of Setubal’s mayor, Maria das Dores Meira, and the organizer of the event, Guilherme Santos. Vรขnia Fernandes with “Senhora do mar” received the biggest round of applause in the auditorium of the evening.
A lot of support was also show to Birgitta Haukdal, who had to face a technical problem during her performance of “Open your heart” which fortunately was quickly solved by the organizers.
The night ended with “Love kills” by Roberto Bellarossa (Belgium 2013), who jumped off the stage to sing the last part of his song surrounded by the standing and dancing audience and set a great end to the show.
