AMSTERDAM, THE NETHERLANDS – For me, following closely the Eurovision Song Contest, Frank Neff, Svante Stockselius and Sietse Bakker are the three persons that made a sever impact in the show we all love.
Today with sadness we saw on Sietse Bakker’s message on Facebook with which he announced the 2016 Eurovision Song contest involvement as event supervisor as his last year in the event.
SIETSE BAKKER’S STATEMENT
The 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm will be my 10th serving the EBU, and my 6th as Event Supervisor. This also marks the 16th year of Eurovision Song Contest involvement, starting in 2000 when I founded Esctoday.com. Just weeks after the contest in Stockholm, I will turn 32, which means I have then dedicated exactly half of my life to this amazing event. After some good talks with family, friends and colleagues, I concluded that this marks a great moment for change! This means, the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Stockholm will be my last as Event Supervisor. Concluding my work as Event Supervisor will allow me to focus on the growth of my companies. And in the months to come, all the way up to Stockholm 2016, it’s business as usual!
Sietse Bakker and me know each other since 2003. He was the person who helped oikotimes.com become what is today. A developed popular fan site. His technical assistance, his guidelines on how to do Eurovision journalism and coverage and most of all his ethical instructions when I messed up, formed oikotimes.com and myself of what we are today.
It was with Sietse Bakker when in the Greek national selection voted for “My number one” the song which gave Greece its first trophy in the Eurovision Song Contest history. It was with Sietse Bakker when in 2006 we had amazing time in Athens when I hosted the future Mr. Event Supervisor to the famously OIKOTOWERS enjoying the national selection with Anna Vissi and all the press trip adventures in the Greek capital.
It’s no secret that his child, ESCToday.com was an inspiration for all Eurovision fan sites until today. An achievement which will be marked in the history of the internet. ESCToday.com under Sietse Bakker was the ruling Eurovision fan site on the web, something that sadly changed immediately when he left it.
Amazing time with Sietse every time we met in Eurovision with tensions, laughters, hugs and many stories which I hope one day I can speak about them in public.
Sietse Bakker, thank you for you music
