THE PRESS CONFERENCE
The curtain falls on the 72nd edition of the Sanremo Festival. The press conference was a way to take stock of what happened not only this year but in general over the three years of Amadeus’ management and artistic direction.
Present at the table, together with the artistic director, the CEO of Rai Carlo Fuortes, the director of Rai 1 Stefano Coletta and the deputy director Claudio Fasulo, the mayor of Sanremo Alberto Biancheri, the director of RaiPlay Elena Capparelli, the director of Rai Pubblicità Gian Paolo Tagliavia and the director of Rai Radio 2 Paola Marchesini. As always, the director of the Rai press office, Stefano Marroni, moderated.
He was the first to speak to the CEO Carlo Fuortes:
“It is a pleasure to be here. I do not thank Amadeus, I want to make him a paean, a victory song. Thanks to the team that has done a fantastic job, the company is very grateful. Allow me to mention the most extraordinary and unexpected value: the young audience. Rai receives the license fee from the citizens, so it has a duty to speak to the citizens. The figure was achieved thanks to the artistic choices, quality was the key to the result. The festival has totally renewed itself and has remained itself, it has maintained its identity. There are those who recommend replacing the dying horse with an equestrian statue for Amadeus.”
Answering a question, Fuortes added that he would like a fourth festival with the conduct and artistic direction of Amadeus.
A clip was therefore projected with the significant moments of this festival, lasting about one minute, at the end of which the director Coletta stated:
“What happened is so extraordinary that I think it happened off-screen. The winner was the artistic direction of Amadeus. Ama won thanks to his authenticity, every guest wanted to be hugged by him. His philosophy of life has also won, not just his style of management. We are very happy with the victory of Mahmood and Blanco, who will represent our country at Eurovision. They will be a very important showcase of what music is and also of what Italy is like, with a love song interpreted by two men.”
Amadeus then spoke, and to sum up, he also recalled his previous editions of the festival and let himself go to a series of thanks:
“It is a special day, one that I want to remember forever. These three years, the treble, is a special feeling. 2020 was the birthday of the Festival, the Sanremo of dreams. Last year’s Sanremo was very important because it was the musical turning point. I decided to give the public and young people their festival, I gave priority to young people more than all other age groups. In a year of sadness, it is clear that you do not have the head to follow, but then there were the Måneskin and also the companies understood that it is the young who move forward. This year I had great affection, a demonstration of enormous esteem. Everyone was happy to be at the Festival, from there I understood that they were the singers in the competition, my super guests. I thank all the Rai departments, my friends Rosario, Checco and Lorenzo, a special thanks to Ciuri who helped me get off to a good start by doing something sensational. I thank the authors, my press office, all of you journalists. Every time I swabbed I left the room and it seemed that Lautaro had scored. I thank the CEO Fuortes, who told me “I have full confidence in you, do the festival you want to do. Share it with the director Coletta but do what you want ”. I thank the director Coletta who shared every moment with me, the editorial staff, Gianmarco Mazzi, the guys from ArcobalenoTre and my friend Lucio Presta. I marked a sentence that said Vittorio Salvetti, creator of the Festivalbar who for me was like a father and was the first to put me on a stage: “Remember that we do not deal with serious things in a light way, but with light things in serious way “. I close with another quote, this time mine: “My first festival made a noise, the second made us quiet and good but the third made me shiver”. Many thanks to all.”
Answering a question about the winning song, Amadeus replied:
“Chills I listened to it for the first time in the studio at very high volume and I shivered. It was written very well, it is elegant … I didn’t immediately think about the victory, which is well deserved, but I was sure it was one of the best songs of my three festivals.”
It was, therefore, the turn of Claudio Fasulo, deputy director of Rai 1, to respond:
“It is good to underline the importance of last night’s podium, symbolically the most representative of this Festival, heterogeneous in genres and musical eras. This was the thirteenth festival for me, but I continue to enjoy myself as if it were the first and I am very happy with it.”
