OSLO, NORWAY – The 2012 Norwegian representative in the Eurovision Song Contest, Tooji, managed to provoke the entire country with his latest video clip depicting him having sex with a priest in front of a church altar. For most Norwegians it was a promotional trick that went beyond limits.
The song which talks about doubting God and religion in general but it is also the official coming out of the Norwegian singer who said that he used this song instead of the usual statement that he is gay. He wanted alongside to raise questions about the society, the state and the church.
NRK though seems not be that open minded. Having Tooji as host for Norwegian Junior Show was too much at the moment and NRK Entertainment Editor, Charlo Halvorsen announced that the video cannot be integrated with the show for kids especially when launched during the period of the MGP Junior finalists announcements. NRK fired Tooji from the project.
Although officially licensed (April 22) to make the video at the Oslo Forgner church (April 27-28 and released on June 8th), the Oslo Bishop stated: aside the message the song wants to bring the church area should not be used for sexual scenes and for commercial reasons, we wouldn’t either accept that from a straight couple. There is clearly a breach of use of Church rules.
