SWEDEN – The Melodifestivalen 2022 tour has been cancelled, according to SVT, Sweden’s national broadcaster.
For the second year in a row, all six shows will be held in Stockholm. Hanna Stjärne, CEO of SVT, stated in a press release:
“Oh, how I wish people around the country could have come and watched Melodifestivalen. Everyone who had looked forward to the broadcasts from Malmö, Gothenburg, Lidköping, Linköping and Örnsköldsvik. But the situation is as it is and now we are making the best of the situation. Melodifestivalen is all of Sweden’s party and we will do our utmost to create an exciting TV program that spreads warmth and joy when it is needed most.”
Oscar Zia will host Melodifestivalen in 2022 this year. Oscar has competed in Melodifestivalen three times. He was a backing singer for Behrang Miri on the song “Jalla Dansa Sawa” in 2013. In 2014, he competed as a solo artist for the first time, finishing eighth in the final with “Yes We Can.” In the same year, he served on the Swedish jury for Eurovision 2014. In 2016, he returned to the competition as a solo singer with “Human,” finishing second in the final. Last year, he co-hosted Melodifestivalen’s Semi-Final 2 with Christer Björkman and Anis Don Demina.
Melodifestivalen 2022 will continue to take place on the previously announced dates. The Melodifestivalen 2022 tour would have stopped at the following locations, with five semifinals (instead four semis and a second chance round):
- Semi-Final 1: Malmö – Malmö Arena (February 5)
- Semi-Final 2: Gothenburg – Scandinavium (Feburary 12)
- Semi-Final 3: Linköping – Saab Arena (February 19)
- Semi-Final 4: Lidköping – Sparbanken Arena (February 26)
- Semi-Final 5: Örnsköldsvik – Hägglunds Arena (March 5)
- Final: Stockholm – Friends Arena (March 12)
