STOCKHOLM, From the moment that Frans performed “If I were sorry” on the 4th semifinal of Melodifestivalen he toped all betting offices as the big favourite to win the Swedish national selection.
Four days before the selection Swedish newspaper “Expressen” reports the similarities of the song with Matt Simon’s 2014 song “Catch & Release”.
The first reaction of many of us was that exactly the same thing happened last year and Mans not only won the Melodifestivalen but the whole event.
The difference this year is that the international record company behind Matt Simons song, PIAS records, is investigating similarities, with the general manager of Pias Henrik Noström stating to “Expressen” that “The two songs are incredibly similar. I don’t even dare to go into what that means”.
What is left to be seen is how SVT will try to cover up this story in case Matt Simon’s record company decides to officially accuse the song for plagiarism, by filling a case.
After all last year’s the answer that both SVT and EBU where giving when they were asked about the plagiarism case of “Heroes” was that there was no official complain about this. Well this year there is.
