Mariette – A Million Years – Predict Direkt Til Finalen
Mariette wowed audiences with her 2015 third place entry “Don’t Stop Believing” and she’s back and she means business. With the first big production number discounting the comedy De Vet Du, she will win this Semi Final without any issue. The song is perfect and the dancers just sealed the deal.
Roger Pontare – Himmel Och Hav (Sky And Sea) – Predict 7th Place
Pontare is back doing what he does best being a personified legendary Nordic king. Unfortunately his USP has worn off now and it doesn’t have the same effect. Years ago this would of won but it just comes across as dated and weird. The song isn’t dissimilar from his winning entry “When Spirits Are Calling My Name” which is arguably is part of the problem. He doesn’t just make up the numbers though he adds diversity to this Semi.
Etzia – Up – Predict 5th Place
This Etzia’s first appearance at Melodifestivalen but it doesn’t feel like it. Her unique style has been echoed throughout many numbers of recent years. The song is good and catchy but her vocals sound lazy. I know it’s her attempt of adding her accent to the verse but it doesn’t work in my opinion. Even her roller skating dancers can’t save this one.
Allyawan – Vart Har Du Vart (Where Have You Every) – Predict 6th Place
I’m all for diversity but really!? All I can say is I’m not a fan of this style of music. He of course has a fan base but it won’t be big enough to see him though.
Dismissed – Hearts Align – Predict Andra Chansen
This is song that shocked me. Actually based on the band’s appearance I didn’t think I’d like this song at all but it really is a great number. I do feel that they are trying too hard to be different which may alienate some but overall it’s a classic rock/pop song that wouldn’t be out of place in any teen film. The rehearsals revealed that they can be a bit pitchy so all with depend on their performance.
Lisa Ajax – I Don’t Give A – Predict Direkt Til Finalen
After last year’s 7th place finish with “My Heart Wants Me Dead” Ajax is back with an even better song in my opinion. It doesn’t bother me that she drops the F-bomb but it certainly does to others. I think it gives the song a unique twist on your typical tragic love song. The other thing for me is I’m not sure why we are seeing a screen full of pics of her behind her. If it told part of the story than I’d get it but it doesn’t. I don’t think it adds anything to her performance.
Benjamin Ingrosso – Good Lovin’ – Predict Andra Chansen
I can remember Benjamin back when he won Lilla Melodifestivalen with “Hey Sofia” in 2006 but over 10 years have past and he’s now on the main stage to launch his own style. His parents famously met at Melfest back in the 80s when his mother, Pernilla Wahlgren, sang “Piccadilly Circus” and his father, Emilio Ingrosso, was one of her backing dancers. So he’s Melfest royalty! His song is a great debut and will have the young girls and boys voting non stop. I like that he’s comfortable in his own style and his wall of tin foil shouldn’t hurt his chances.
