There are confusing feelings in me about this song. The overall idea of the song is nice, the song seems to be powerful but I am not sure Rykka is performing the song as powerful as the song message and tune are. Don’t know if the Canadian singer will be able to convince me and the European audience as so far her live performances in various promo visits were not as good as expected. There is though a strong message and a powerful tune which can do something. But until Stockholm rehearsals convince me for the opposite, I don’t see Switzerland in the final.
Jaime Solloso from Spain
I feel for Switzerland. Can Celine Dion please come back? I mean this is a good attempt, it’s not a bad song but the singer lacks ay gravitas. I’m sure by the time of the contest she will have improved but the nature of the song and the way Rykka is attempting to sing it needs someone with more clout, a higher pitch. This song could be a masterpiece but it needs the right singing style and the right stage performance. Again, it may creep into the final but a lot will depend on the live performance.
Morden Kaiser from Denmark
I really liked Rykka when I heard “The Last of Our Kind” for the first time. But the song hasn’t grown on me, unfortunately. There are too many of “her kind” this year and this will make it difficult to make a good result for Switzerland this year, I think. The song is not bad, but there are better singers and songs this year.
