GREECE – Exclusive interview of the well-known composer George Katsaros took place today, on the occasion of his appearance in “House with MEGA”, in “MEGA Good Morning”, with Eleonora Meleti and her company, where among other things she spoke about Eurovision!
George Katsaros, who was the composer of the first participation of Greece in the Eurovision song contest “Wine, sea and my boy” with Marinella, in 1974, spoke about this experience:
“It was an amazing experience, incredible… it was also the first time we participated in this competition. It was the time when ABBA… won the award and Marinella was the surprise! Until then, a singer had not come out again with pants and a tambourine in her hand!”
He then revealed an incident that happened behind the scenes, where the missions were waiting for the results:
“I did not smoke, but from the anxiety I had, I took a cigarette, and lit it… next to us were ABBA… and where I was wearing it, I burned the pants of the singer of ABBA, the little blonde, I do not remember what they call it (s.s. Agnetha Fältskog) and I almost burned her leg too!”
He also referred to his favourite participation from Greece, which is “My Number One” with Helena Paparizou, as he said he had the whole package:
“She had it all… both the lyrics and the music and of course the result of the choreography…”
Finally, George Katsaros, driven by the fact that he was for years Chairman of the Jury in national finals for the selection of Greek participation, referred to his personal preference both in the way of selection (a national final with many songs said) and this year’s candidates of ERT’s internal selection (the son of Yannis Parios stood out GOOD JOB NICKY), stating that he listened to all 5 final candidate songs.
The interesting twist here is that ERT claimed that no one has heard the songs besides the jury formed inside ERT and the songs never left the broadcaster’s premises!…
However, he stated that in recent years an effort has been made for our participation in Eurovision.
