PORTUGAL – Since Salvador Sobral won Eurovision 2017 for Portugal with “Amar Pelos Dois”, there is still controversy surrounding the performances and songs that tookk part in Kiev.
This time the accusation surrounds the Greek singer Demy, who performed “This is love”, the song it is claimed is a plagiarised version of the Portuguese song “Dialectos de Ternura”, a song that was performed by Maria Leal who performed it on the television show “The Voice”. Demy took her song to the Eurovision Final, achieving 19th position with 77 points.
The similarities in the song are inexistable, both are pop songs but there is very little in the lyrics or melody that resembles both songs. In fact the pitch employed in both songs could be described as very different, so it’s a little surprising to find the accusation of plagiarism taking place. It’s also to be noted that the song “Dialectos de Ternura” has since been performed by other singers and there’s even a Spanish version of the song, which again does not resemble Demy’s in the slightest.
Well she will get extra views for her dreadful performance, that’s the only thing for sure!
