ITALY –ย The final night of the SANREMO FESTIVAL is about to take place in a few hours. The betting odds ant MAHMOOD & BLANCO to win the ticket to Eurovision 2022, which anyway will take place a few kilometres away, in Turin next May.
In my own personal opinion, it would be a surprise to see Gianni Morandi winning the festival. But even if that happens, I doubt he will accept the Eurovision challenge, despite he is one of the legends of Italian music and beloved (we saw it in the voting as well) with the audience and viewers.
On the other hand, my personal feeling says that if Mahmood and Blanco win, the country is definitely entering the direct race for winning again the Eurovision trophy, something which will not happen if Elisa wins. Elisa although a good singer, doesn’t have a structured song that can appeal to the European audience. But the gay anthem of Mahmood and Blanco will slay.

The last press conference for the final night took place.
The last evening of the Sanremo 2022 Festival is upon us, and as usual, the press conference took place which opened with a gathering of journalists at the table due to the extraordinary presence of Sabrina Ferilli, co-host of the evening. The fulcrum, however, was the case of Gianni Morandi and Jovanotti.
Present at the press room table, in addition to the aforementioned Sabrina Ferilli, the director of Rai 1 Stefano Coletta and the deputy director Claudio Fasulo, the director of RaiPlay and Digital Elena Capparelli, the artistic director Amadeus and the councillor for tourism of the municipality of Sanremo Giuseppe Faraldi.
The press conference was opened by Sabrina Ferilli, who made a series of irreverent speeches for the entire duration of the conference:
“I am very happy and I applauded this success of Sanremo 2022, I am always happy when things go well. This is not the first time I’ve come here but the emotion is the same. When they called me, she called me Presta first, I immediately said yes. Amadeus has the beauty of someone who knows how to welcome, he has shown it even with those who preceded me.”
Stefano Coletta, director of Rai 1, therefore commented on the extraordinary results of the evening:
“When these evenings are lived, any word would be reductive. Last night I was in the front row and I wrote to all the team members because I felt that everything was in its place. There was a great sense of accomplishment.”
So Amadeus, the artistic director, took over:
“Now I have no more words, I am very happy, it is much more than what I would have imagined in my dreams, and I dream big because it costs nothing. It was an unforgettable evening, the result of meticulous work. The artists are the backbone of this festival, I have to thank them for all they have done and are doing. My son gave me the idea of โโinviting Sabrina Ferilli: everyone likes her and is spontaneous, she says the same bad words that we do too.”
Claudio Fasulo, deputy director of Rai 1, therefore spent a few words to comment on yesterday’s evening and to anticipate the final:
“When such a complex product comes out so well on TV it is because there is great work behind it. The Dietrofestival will be broadcast in access prime time tomorrow evening, so you too can see some of the work. Tonight we will have great guests, in addition to Sabrina Ferilli there will be Marco Mengoni, the band of the Guardia di Finanza, Orietta Berti and Fabio Rovazzi and then there will be a tribute to Raffaella Carrร with the musical Ballo ballo ballo, with the choreography of Laccio and the coordination by Sergio Japino. He will vote the televoting for the evening, then for the final 3 will be the three juries to vote.”
Sanremo 2022: the Morandi-Jovanotti case
Most of the questions came about the Morandi or Jova-gate case. In fact, last night Jovanotti, who duetted with Morandi on a medley of the most iconic songs of the two, took the stage a second time as a super guest.
The duo then won the cover evening of Sanremo 2022, sparking numerous controversies in the press room.
Amadeus answered, visibly annoyed, to the numerous questions from colleagues:
“Each singer is free to bring whoever he wants. As artistic director, I can recommend a piece or a guest rather than another, but I can’t change either song or guest. I do not oblige anyone to announce guests weeks in advance, and anyone is free to add a guest at the last moment. I chose to have them sing after the victory, hearing the audience wanting to hear them again, as I also chose to have Jovanotti’s speech and also the broadcast of the Jova Beach Party movie. I learned yesterday of Lorenzo’s participation and I immediately said yes, the participation was due to a friendship and Jovanotti did not take a cent from this intervention. Anyone could have made their own songs. I would have been happy if Rettore had made Kobra if Ranieri had made Losing love or Zanicchi a piece of him, nowhere is it written that it would not have been possible. Among other things, Patty Pravo, in 2016, brought a song of her to the cover evening.”
Quoting Mahmood and Blanco’s words at a previous press conference, Amadeus added:
“Mahmood, who is playing for the first place of this Sanremo 2022 with Morandi, said that “Gianni is a sacred monster, he does not need anyone’s help and is going very fast, he too would have won without Jovanotti”. Do not go and find the rotten one where there is no irregularity even in the eyes of the singers in the competition.”
Stefano Coletta also said about him, replying to a colleague:
“I ask you a question: after seeing the duet, do you think the guest added something to an extraordinary duet after two hours? Even without Jovanotti or without that second intervention Morandi would have won the evening, that moment is destined to end up in the Teche Rai for how beautiful and memorable it was.”
