An outstanding performance, a magnificent and brilliant concept of electro ethnic music describe what “1944” is. Jamaica is bringing history to life, shares a personal story although we all redirect the song message to the current political situation. Ukrainian entries always turn up as favourite and Ukraine for me is the dark horse for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest. Simply excellent!
Jaime Solloso from Spain
A nice little number if slightly questionable in terms of the politics but it plays out very well. There are those sounds familiar with Ukrainian entries while also adding a strange hippy vibe to the song. However I don’t see this as a strong entry. It’s nice, there is no denying that but it caters to a very selective crowd, I don’t see many people falling for this. The vocals are good, lyrics good and it offers that ancient historical stance but I don’t think it’s setting Eurovision alight.
Morden Kaiser from Denmark
Probably the most emotional song of 2016. It really seems like Jamala means what she is singing and she does it well. Dark, mysterious and interesting. What a performance. This will for sure stand out from the rest in the live shows. I think Ukraine is a real dark horse this year and will do very well, if she manages to get her feelings out to the people of Europe on the night.
