UNITED KINGDOM / Mel Giedroyc has told viewers that success at this year’s contest is up to them. And as it is the public who will pick the winner to represent us in Ukraine this May, it will be our fault if the singer ends up with the dreaded “nil points”.
Six acts – all former X Factor acts including Danyl Johnson, Holly Brewer and Lucie Jones – will perform live. Then viewers vote for the one they want to represent the UK at the song contest. In recent years the BBC chose the entry, which led to a backlash from the public – so last year TV chiefs handed the power back to fans.
And Mel said: “I trust the public. But I also think it’s good to be transparent about it and basically pass the buck. “If it all goes t*ts up, we can just say: ‘The public decided – it’s their fault!’” She said: “Maybe, maybe they’ll just think we’re a bunch of absolute Judas losers who deserve nil points.”
