LONDON, THE UNITED KINGDOM – The winner of the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest, superstar Celine Dion, has opened up about her Eurovision experience where she represented Switzerland. Dion, who is currently promoting her new album “Loved Me Back to Life”, appeared recently on the Jonathan Ross Show, saying Eurovision was “a very strange experience”.
“First of all I receive a call and I was in Montreal, where I live and they want me to go to Ireland and they want me to represent Switzerland … as a French Canadian Quebecoise, for the song contest. I didn’t get it, so I’m like but what about people in Switzerland? What are they going to think? Where’s she coming from? We don’t even know her”, she said.
Celine said she also felt like a horse during Eurovision, “But what I did is, that I went there and I really, I felt like a horse. And let me elaborate on that. You can bet on the artist that you want the country to win. So my husband, who is a gambler, bet on me.
A lot of money, and I felt like I was a horse and I needed to race. I really needed to win that race. Did you see me? I was like this . I looked like a horse and I felt like a horse. But Switzerland, we won. So they loved me after. They gave me a lot of chocolate”.
