MADRID, SPAIN – Yesterday the Spanish Gay Pride kicked off in Chueca Square (Madrid) with a massive announcement by Ruth Lorenzo and Conchita Wurst. 2 million of people are expected to join the celebrations in defense of sexual freedom in the world.
Due to the agglomeration of people, Police decided not to allow subway to stop in the square, as a security measure.
The start of the celebrations was marked by a loud uproar of shouts and whistles challenging the 55 dB limit set by the City to the organizers for the opening ceremony. Ruth Lorenzo alluded to the limit from the gallery, trying to talk without microphone and next to the big star of the day, Conchita Wurst. The organizers made various complains to the City in their speech.
There were complains of some organizers to the Government (because of the cuts, specially in health and education), and that the platform “Democracia Real Ya” organized a massive booing against the Major of Madrid, Ana Botella, for “trying to mute the start of the celebrations”. However, the City explains that it’s only the musical shows the ones moving from Chueca Square to other locations, and the speech is taking part in Chueca as usual because it isn’t expected to break the dB limit.
