MALTA – Yesterday was a historical day in Malta, and Eurovision celebs were obviously involved. Maltese parliament voted the much expected “Marriage Act and other Laws Bill”. From late afternoon people were gathering in the city centre of Valletta to follow the vote and in order to celebrate this huge event in Malta’s history.
In front of Auberge de Castille (Prime Minister Joseph Muscat’s offices), a stage and a giant screen had been set up in order for anyone to share the moment.
After the vote, Prime Minister went on stage and the Place was lit with the rainbow colours and the words “We Made History”, marking the start of the party itself.
Maltese queen Ira Losco sent a video message that could be seen on the giant screen to say how happy and proud she was after this law was voted. Then, 2017 representative Claudia Fianello hit the stage to perform a medley of her national final tracks, as well as her entry “Breathlessly”, in front of an excited crowd.
Later on, the eternal runner-up Brooke performed her two entries “Unstoppable” (4th in 2017) and “Golden” (2nd in 2016).
Malta hence becomes the 15th European state to allow same-sex marriage, with probably one of the most progressive law ever when it comes to LGBT rights in Europe. Prosit Malta!
