ATHENS, GREECE – Since September 6th we asked you to participate in our survey for the Greek Eurovision participation in 2014. Thanks to more than 17,500 replies we have some interesting answers to announce based on what the Greek and European fans and supporters of Greece want.
Do you think Greece should participate in Eurovision 2014?
86% answered yes, showing the need to have a Greek entry in the Eurovision Song Contest for various reasons of course. The main conclusion is that this percentage of fans feel the need to maintain Greece in an international event like this one.
Do you think Greece will participate in Eurovision 2014?
55% answered yes. The percentage here seems kinda low because of the troubles with the national broadcaster and the uncertainty regarding the possibility and eligibility to participate.
Which broadcaster should handle Eurovision 2014 in Greece?
34% want MAD TV to take over the project as an exception this year. Though 24% (the second answer) feel that NERIT should exclusively deal with Eurovision Song Contest. MAD TV is proven to be a loyal Eurovision supporter in Greece and as the top music TV station is considered the most reliable source for Eurovision anymore especially when Greece ranked 6th last year (when MAD TV produced the national final).
What type of artist do you want to represent Greece in 2014?
The preferences of the people participating in the survey is towards a female representation in the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2014. It seems for many of the visitors, that a female singer is more appealing for a good performance and ranking on a Eurovision project.
What’s the best song style for Greece 2014?
The fans clearly showed their preference to a pop song with ethnic elements, a recipe proven to be already a big success for the Greek participations in the last 10 years. Weirdly though (despite the 6th position in the final last year) the last choice of the survey participants was “a ska song”!

The trend continues in this question as well. Pop/ethnic songs are those who loved the fans throughout the history of Greek participations in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Do you want Greece to win a near future Eurovision edition?
This is interesting. 78% of the fans say “yes” to win the Eurovision Song Contest despite the sentiment in the Greek society that a Eurovision hosting would make the Greeks angry (at least this is the sentiment inside the Eurovision Team in Greece)
If Greece wins which city would you want to host it?
Athens beats Thessaloniki by 51% over 43% respectively. No other city seems to have gathered a reasonable percentage to be mentioned. Despite not been promoted enough in the Eurovision fans, Thessaloniki gets a big percentage in the poll. Don’t forget that the official video clip of Greece in 2013 wa recorded in Thessaloniki!
What’s the best option for selecting Greek entry for 2014?
The fans clearly want a simple national final with various artists presenting their songs. The answer reached the precentage of 65% in this quesiton and it’s what we will see again this year for Greece.
Who should represent Greece in Eurovision 2014?
Now this is interesting. We listed a number of names before the leak of the potential participants and we got interesting answers. Kostas Martakis tops the preferences of the fans, while Crystallia is ranked 15th in the choice amongst the suggested artists. Eleni Foureira, Demy, Tamta and Marina & The Diamonds conclude the top five choices of the fans asked to participate in this survey.
