On Monday morning DR informed the press for its plans for Eurovision Song Contest 2014 announcing the hosting city, venue and slogan.
Frank Jensen, the mayor of Copenhagen pointed out that the city will also be Europe’s Green capital in 2014 and it would be great to make an environmental friendly event. The city will give 40 million DKK for the contest (approx 5,4 million Euros)
Maria Robye, the head of DR (Denmark’s national broadcasting corporation) said that Copenhagen must be proven as a great host as the city won the award for world’s best city making Eurovision 2014 the best show ever. She also said that the entire city will celebrate the event with special restaurant menus and the Royal Family ship aside to the port.
Pernille Gaardbo, the Executive Producer of the contest talked about the tickets, saying she hopes to release them soon and make sure that everyone gets the chance to see parts of the show. She also mentioned that the reconstruction of the venue will make it visible from all over the city (with light effects). Eurovision events will take place in the city center which is very close to the venue and there will be bus and boat shuttles! Choosing the specific venue depicts what Caopenhagen and Denmark are all about: a country, a city surrounded by water! She also siad that it will be greater event than that of 2001 as back then 23 countries participated and now they are up to reach 43 ones!.
Jan Lagermand Lundme, the show responsible for the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest said that the opening of the show will include lots of light and fireworks. The hosts will welcome the viewers from the top of the venue having the entire city as their background (somehow it reminde us the Melodifestivalen 2011 opening). The postcards this year will present a portrait of the singers.
